A strange day by the sea, waves build sand castles for me. I inhale a wish, and dandelion seeds are drawn to my lips. The contour of your collar bone, back in my pencil. A strange wind tidies up my hair, makes me fall in love again. Back in time, back at home, a happy heartbeat in a womb. White noise: my blanket, my holy book, my labor pain. These haphazard droplets be rising suns. Nuclei, orchids and chariots, Goddesses, fireflies and transistors. In pain, in pain, in pain, but grateful. it's almost time, a time again, a time to be.

about

This is the third album of the Carmen series, where we go backwards in time, first returning to childhood, and then to the beginning of the universe. As usual, the track titles constitute a poem, and as usual there is one song in the album ("it's almost time...") where the lyrics are the track titles. The album-poem reads like this:

Carmen Temporis

A strange day by the sea, waves build sand castles for me
I inhale a wish and dandelion seeds are drawn to my lips
The contour of your collar bone back in my pencil
A strange wind tidies up my hair, makes me fall in love again
Back in time, back at home, a happy heartbeat in a womb

White noise: my blanket, my holy book, my labor pain
These haphazard droplets be rising suns
Nuclei, orchids and chariots,
Goddesses, fireflies and transistors,
In pain, in pain, in pain, but grateful
It’s almost time, a time again, a time to be

Dervis Can Vural Turkey

My compositions are experiments in counterpoint and impressionism sourcing middle eastern motifs. Most of my work explores texture, as opposed to harmony and timbre.

I was trained as a concert pianist, but later on became a theoretical physicist.
